Description

According to the national strategy on conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and the Programme of Action MS 2003 in Poland, there is low awareness of the importance of ecology. There is a need to increase this awareness to maintain biodiversity for the present and the future generations. The objective of the project is an increase in social awareness of biodiversity of Poland and education in this area and related to climate change and the economical value of ecosystems. The project also aims at an increase in ecological potential within NGOs that work to promote biodiversity, the administration and monitoring of the awareness increase in the area of NATURE 2000, and an increase in domestic ecosystems ability to cope with the pressure of foreign species invasions. The project will carry out activities aimed at achieving a level of practical environmental knowledge among youths, thanks to the support of mentors and specialists, and to create the Polish Portal of Biodiversity. The people expected to benefit are in particular youth between 14 and 17 years old and persons above the age of 60 from Poland.

Summary of project results

All activities planned within the project have been implemented, the final report has been approved. Results of implementation of the entire project Increased awareness of and education in biodiversity and ecosystem services, including awareness of and education in the linkage between biodiversity and climate change (Number of people who have participated in educational activities and promoting the conservation of biodiversity: 36 791); development of social attitudes and ecological behavior and increase public involvement in the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems. Biodiversity conservation measures were implemented by two non-governmental organizations. Within the project the following activities were implemented: organization of the conference, workshops, trainings, publication of the educational materials and the website.
