Description
The goal of the project is to form a uniform civil society by promoting intercultural dialogue and minority integration, including strengthening of human rights and democracy, and innovative learning of the Latvian language, thus stimulating the acquisition of citizenship. The target group of the project is representatives of the minorities, members, employees and volunteers of the association and project partner organisations. The project envisages publishing an intercultural newspaper for young people, developing a brochure about the chances of the people of minorities to participate in civil society, training the target group, employees and volunteers, and experience exchange events. In the framework of the project efficiency of NGO participation in the political processes on a municipal level will be improved and promoted.
Summary of project results
The project was necessary to contribute to the formation of a cohesive civic society by promoting intercultural dialogue and integration of national minorities, including the strengthening of democracy through facilitation of innovative ways of learning the Latvian language to enable acquisition of citizenship.The target groups of the Project were various groups of people, including national minorities – 10000, non-citizens – 500, citizens – 300, as well as the NGOs that represent the rights and interests of the aforementioned groups of people. Place of project implementation was Latgale. The following results have been achieved: - Creation (publishing, dissemination, popularisation) of intercultural (interschool) youth newspaper “Bridge of Latgale” (4 issues). In its developing the secondary-school age youth of both Latvian and national minorities’ schools were involved. - Creation, dissemination and popularisation of a brochure “Your Opportunity “ABC””. The minorities and other social groups have been provided with access to comprehensible information about the necessary steps for establishing of NGO. It has been increased and promoted the efficacy of participation among general population, non-formal groups and social organisations in political processes on the municipal level. - Educating the project participants, staff, members, founders and volunteers within 2 seminars (75 participants); - 2 experience exchange events (20 participants); - Latvian language lessons for 60 people in region of Latgale: Daugavpils, district of Daugavpils, Dagda; - Informative and publicity events. As a result it has been increased proportion of people in Latvia who expand the social capital through formal and informal cooperation to achieve personal and societal aims.
