Description

The Latvian youth is discouraged from participating in various extracurricular activities, youth organizations and social processes. Project aims to educate and train the youth of Ventspils using non-formal education methods, providing them with information and opportunities to advocate their own interests, thus strengthening civil society of Latvia. During the project an information network for youth will be set up about the possibilities to spend their time productively and participate in public processes. Trainings for young people will be carried out to help them to better express their views and promote participation in democratic processes. The project promoter will participate in the program "Youth in Action" providing consultations about project development and becoming a regional coordinator of the European youth information portal "Eurodesk". Main project target groups are NGO members and youth.

Summary of project results

Project "You can do more than you think!" was implementation in the city of Ventspils. The aim of the project was to educate and train young people with non-formal education methods, providing them with information and opportunities to participate in their own interest advocacy, thus strengthening civil society in Latvian. The aim was largely met, having some struggle to get as much participants for trainings as planned. Very successful campaign called “build your own house” was implemented involving young people in advocacy for a youth house in Ventspils, which led to a contract between the association and municipality, with solid funding and premises for young people. Online and intramural network of information for young people on opportunities to spend their time productively and participate in public process was set up. Training for young people, student governments, classes and other interested parties, was delivered to build skills and values for a better society and integration in to labour market. The best practices and ideas for using Non-formal education in formal education settings was published in easy to use tool kit for teachers.
