Description

The project's aim is to promote intercultural dialogue and integrate ethnic minorities raising awareness around the importance of human rights, national identity, democratic values and citizenship, as well as promoting democratic participation and mutual tolerance, thus developing a cohesive society. The project activities include courses for non-citizens and ethnic minority representatives for obtaining citizenship, organizing public discussions, operation of an intercultural integration club „Culture Charm”, as well as carrying out various information and publicity activities. The project is targeted for ethnic minorities, non-citizens and NGOs representing the rights and interests of these groups. The project will be implemented in the Riga region, where the respective target group is one of the most numerous in the country.

Summary of project results

The aim to promote intercultural dialogue and integration of minorities, strengthening the understanding and the importance of human rights, national identity, democratic values and citizenship, promote growth of democratic participation and mutual tolerance thus making united society in Latvia has been achieved. Project target group: 133 people (115 representatives of minorities, non-citizens 17) and 16 NGOs that work with the target group, 30 members, 8 employees, 41 volunteers. Experience exchange between NGOs developed cooperation and promoted the takeover of good practice in making civil society. Place of implementation – Riga region. Project activity: 1) 25 Latvian language lectures have taken place, where 21 participants have improved their Latvian language knowledge in order to use the Latvian language as a way of communication valuably and in many ways in speech and writing in the Latvian society. 10 „Human rights and civil education" lectures have taken place. 21 people have promoted and developed their knowledge and understanding about Latvian legislation, made civil education, human rights education – developing of knowledge, skills and attitude for active work and participation.10 Latvian history lectures have taken place. 21 people have got acquainted with the history of Latvia that provides the possibility to take the naturalisation exam, as well as to create understanding about Latvian historic and cultural development processes and regularities. 2) 6 discussions have been organized, where 193 people of different nationalities participated, who represented different organisations, institutions and during discussions provided exchange of opinions and gained new information. 3) 25 club’s “Culture-Charm” activities have taken place. Each of them visited 30 people of different nationalities. The club has helped the minority representatives and non-citizens to integrate in the Latvian society, has revealed the bright features of other cultures and also the hidden, invisible cultural edges that will help in the mutual integration processes as a reference information providing the mutual understanding, making of inter cultural dialogue and the promotion of Latvian language acquiring and usage in the public space.
