Description

The project is set to develop a programme of long-term complex measures to improve the quality of living environment in Ķekava Municipality promoting civic participation of the local inhabitants. The project will raise civic awareness of Ķekava Municipality inhabitants about development and improvement of their living environment, strengthen the association’s capacity, and develop programmes for elderly and youth age groups involving them in voluntary work for taking care of homeless cats and providing prophylactic measures. Within the project a register for homeless cats’ colonies will be established to control their reproduction and well-being. The project will also foster participation in an international NGO cooperation network, as well as develop a local level NGO cooperation platform and international cooperation network. Target group: members, employees, volunteers, pet owners, owners of apartment houses.

Summary of project results

The objective of the society "Animal shelter Mežavairogi" project operational program - to develop and improve long-term complex program of measures, which will contribute to the improvement of the living environment quality in Kekava municipality. The place for implementation of the project operational program is Ķekava municipality. The project has achieved the project objectives and tasks. The project's main activities were raising of civil awareness of living environment development for inhabitants of Kekava municipality, society's capacity building, information of volunteers, seniors and volunteer youth groups, social inclusion and the promotion of participation in the operational program. During the implementation of the project was established a complex program of measures, which contributed to improving the quality of life in Kekava municipality for its residents in the long term. There was established local NGO cooperation platform. In the activities of the society were engaged new groups of voluntary seniors and young volunteers, including the social risk group persons. Two societies became involved in policy making and decision making processes in the local municipality of Kekava that ensures the sustainability of the project. Establishment and maintenance of the livestock register was implemented in cooperation with the self-government of local municipality. During the project was developed and launched preventive activities operation program for disease prevention of pets, especially ownerless cats, thus not only controlling animal reproduction, welfare, but also ensuring inhabitants ' health and safety. By implementing the project it was ensured the availability of information on existing problems and their solutions chosen within the project, as well as with the educational material, as well as were implemented informative - educational activities on safety of living environment and sustainable development. Contributing to the improvement of living environment quality, during the project were established and prepared 15 care places for ownerless cat colonies. The colony care and preventive measures were organized by attracting volunteers-seniors, ensuring safety and quality of the population living environment in the long term.
