The project is aimed at developing innovative social service to families with children, where at least one of the parents is residing abroad, to reduce their risk of social exclusion and enhance their integration in the society. The innovative approach is based on the idea to unite children and their parents living abroad, in joint workshops by using digital means of communication. Within the project, a training programme I know! I can! I will! Skills for successful communication and a page in the social network facebook.com, where all families will write their diaries, will be developed. The target group of the project is children aged 7–12. The training programme and the developed methodology will be evaluated by an expert, it will be published and presented to social teachers, teachers, NGOs, State and local government institutions.

Summary of project results

The goal of the project was the development of an innovative social service for families with children, where at least one of the parents lives abroad. The innovative approach was based on the idea to unite children and their parents, who live abroad, in common activities by using digital tools. During the project the training program "I know! I can! I am able to" was developed and a special part of the home page of the project was created where each family had the opportunity to develop their own notebook. The target audience of the project were children from 7 to 12 due to the fact that at this age it is very important to improve interaction skills. The training program was implemented during 12 training sessions in Latvian and 12 training sessions in Russian for groups of children from Riga's Kurzemes and Latgales suburbs who have parents abroad. After the implementation of the training program, the teaching materials for parents and the methodology were evaluated by an expert and were published and shared with social pedagogues, teachers, NGO, state and local government institutions. The goals and activities of the project and EEA project program were publicized in one professional paper media (single publication), there were also two publications on television and numerous publications on the Internet.
