Description

Given the relatively low trust in the State power the project will work on strengthening the association’s analytic capacity of economic development and involve society in finding solutions to problems hindering sustainable development of the State thus improving the trust in the State power. A research will be conducted on the conformity of political decisions and public administration activities to the interests of society and national planning documents and the identified problems will be discussed among representatives of public administration and NGOs in order to find solutions. The project will seek to identify systemic errors in creating sustainable policy and propose possible solutions involving society in drafting the action policy, proactive interest by the society in following principles of good governance in the public administration. The target group is the NGO’s members, employees, volunteers, State administration officials, active users of social networks.

Summary of project results

Implementation of the project has significantly increased capacity for the main aim of the association – strengthening of economic thought in Latvia with the involvement of volunteer experts (60+) by broadening awareness of the influence of short-term decisions on the country’s sustainable development – outside of the traditional economy by also evaluating processes in such significant areas as social development, education, justice, safety, and others. Discussion with the state official and MEPs gave the project a broader grasp of Latvian priorities and opportunities in the context of Europe. 15 studies were conducted within the project. Methodology for the analysis of economic development was improved during the project, including assessment of the government executing the declaration, determination of priorities for Latvia’s development, and assessment of public administration based on the current situation and taking into account recommendations from respected international organisations. Review of indicators by external experts. Six-month/1-year progress. Active involvement of the association members in discussions about Latvia’s economic development and its perspectives. The association has expressed its desire to continue monitoring of Latvia’s economic development according to the established methodology by selecting priority areas for development and inviting experts representing the respective areas. Enrolment of 2 members and 2 associated members to the association – a valuable and competent addition to the discussion on the economic policy in Latvia and Europe. Society has been informed about the identified problems and conclusions of discussions – information has been frequently provided to the media not only for publication but also for the knowledge of journalists with respect to a potential source of competence for presentation of social processes which are thematically related to the research area of the project. Variations with forms and channels of publication contents, addressing various audiences (for example, Barometer of Keeping Promises, an online discussion cycle, conclusion of the project as a supplement to the newspaper, and others) – a broader opportunity to address the audience.
