Description

The project’s aim is to promote gender equality issues among the youth in out-of-family care institutions, to expand their understanding and knowledge about the sense of gender identity in formation of harmonious relationship, as well as to improve the skills of NGOs and teachers. Within the project data about the knowledge of the target group will be gathered, to educate the youth residing in orphanages at informal classes thus increasing their understanding about gender equality; strengthening collaboration between NGOs and teachers at orphanages and improving their knowledge and to present and clarify gender equality issues, to carry out a study “Understanding of orphanage youth about gender equality and roles of gender and their knowledge about and attitude towards various gender equality aspects”, to elaborate methodological recommendations for teachers and NGOs about the education of orphanage youth in the field of gender equality; creation of a section on the website about project activities. Target group: youth, NGO members, employees and volunteers.

Summary of project results

Necessity of the project was identified by awareness of youth group at risk about one of the core values of our democratic society - gender equality, which is one of the fundamental values of democratic society.Project results will be stored on the website, as the research, methodological recommendations.The main benefit is that this information will be stored in the memories of the target group and as experience.Project target group 80childrens and youth grown up in out-of family care centres(orphnages). Results: During the project research "How do young people from Children’s House understand gender identity and gender roles, knowledge and attitudes of the various aspects of gender equality" was carried out, "Methodological recommendations for educators and non-governmental organizations about education of the orphanage youth on gender equality " developed and created DVD with recorded nine videos, research and the methodological recommendations in each disc and given to outside family care institutions, non-governmental organizations and interested parties.The main benefit - knowledge of the various aspects of gender equality and risks, therefore we can conclude that the objectives of the project was fully achieved.The project influenced young people from target groups to turn from information accumulators into its distributors in their own environment, telling and discussing in the collective and society, even arguing with their friends, schoolmates and acquaintances. It should be noted that the interest in these issues is not weakened and diminished, because not only teachers, but also the young people are interested in the opportunities to participate in new projects and become as more active performers and distributors of civic participatory ideas in Latvian society.Therefore, it was promoted public welfare growth and availability of social services to the target group who has become more aware and cognizant, affected by the project.
