"Civil Society Strengthening guidelines 2005–2014” stress the importance of formation of civil society. NGOs should be active and focused on results, which is difficult without sufficient financial resources. The Project aims to develop civil society in Latvia by strengthening Society’s capacity,ensuring its active participation in policy-making and decision-making processes and organizing activities for local residents. The Project's aim will be achieved by monitoring actual legislative basis, participating in working groups of ministries, collaborating with NGOs from Northern Europe, developing an IT platform to ensure effective communication, organizing a range of training to Society’s members/volunteers, organizing NGO experiences exchange events, organizing the “Market of Young mothers creative works", competitions "Youth alternative art day" and the exhibition "Ethnic Communities feature”. Main project target groups are Society’s members,local residents.
Summary of project results
The necessity of Project is directly connected to limited opportunities of Latvia NGO’s based on lack of human resources and financial instruments to provide effective participation in decision making process. Development Centre 4 Family identified crucial competencies to be sucessful social partner for such decisions that are related to family welfare, safety of child and educational system. The Project allowed to strenghten the capacity of organisation and through public services organization can fund it’s activities in field of social services. The main results cover 3 competencies: - Insitutional sustainability – there were designed special events to raise competence of human resources like members, volunteers and employees of NGO’s dealing with social welfare issues. There was created network of organisations on national level and 2 international level NGO partnerships that has sucessfully turned into 2 long term decelopment projects. - To provide long-term actions and work of NGO’s there was realized trainings, fundraising events (8 projects) and strategies. Also there was established preschool within DC4F which provides social inclusion based education program. - Political sustainability was provided by active membership in Council of NGO’s and Cabinet of Ministers Memorandum, Work groups in ministries of welfare, education and science and environment protection and regional development. The Project results have been successfully reached and quantitative results overhead expected ones. The Work Program implemented by development Centre 4 Family is 3 years mid term action plan to strenghten NGO network which realizes community programs at local level.
