Summary of project results

The project was necessary to provide young people from different social backgrounds, irrespective of their social status, nationality or gender, with free informal education therefore increasing their civic participation, making them an active member of the society and empowering them in the job market. The aim of the project was encourage young people to think critically about their surroundings - whether that is media, political and social issues - and provide a platform for their participation in decision making. Furthermore, by providing an open platform, young people were given an opportunity to find solutions for coexistence of different subcultures in a friendly environment where primary focus was put on achieving results. The project not only provided workshops, discussions, lectures and seminars in the field of media, but also provided project participants with first work experience in organizer's projects - filming, editing, creative writing, photography, project assistance, therefore young people being not only passive observers but becoming active participants in the content creation. New media and youth products are primarily created by professionals of different age group, which creates a gap between the creator and receiver - the project developed a structure so that the young people would be the creator of the products for their own audience - a youth magazine "iZvēlies", TV shows, online platform, participation in organizing media summer school and discussions, and so on. The project has provided a significant contribution to the objectives set initially: • There were 75 volunteers involved with the project activities • 15 project implementing partners and members were trained • There were 5 exchange visits in Latvia and 3 international exchange visits • There were 2 summer camps held (in total 75 participants) • Created 4 TV and internet programs • The products of the project have reached 5000 young people - show "My first job", "Work / Unemployment", "Morality / immorality"; • Released two electronic and two print magazines • Have improved communication with young people by involving them in different types of activities and offering internships within the NGO.
