The project is aimed to develop social skills and basic work skills in people with disabilities, people of pre-retirement and retirement age involving them in a rehabilitation programme, promoting social integration, integration into the labor market, reducing social inequality, initiating an innovative service Sensations park in rehabilitation and cognitive center „Soul Quenching Garden” in a rural environment. The target group includes 30 people of pre-retirement and retirement age and 70 people with visual impairments and other disabilities. Activities will take place in various social rehabilitation modules communication, IT, physical activities, floristry, wicker weaving, handicrafts and gardening, etc. The Norwegian Association of the Blind is a collaboration partner, in collaboration with which a preliminary design of the Sensations park and a territorial zoning plan for social rehabilitation cent re „Soul Quenching Garden” will be developed.
Summary of project results
During the project, 30 pre-retirement and retirement age people and 69 people with visual and other disabilities were involved in the project, not only from Kurzeme region, but also from other Latvia regions. The project was implemented with the objective to promote social skills and development of basic working skills of disadvantaged groups of people - people with disabilities, pre-retirement age people (people who are unemployed) and people of retirement age, involving them in 400 hour social rehabilitation program (custom made in terms of content and proportion of activities each person was involved), promoting the integration in society and involvement into the labor market. People from target group learned new skills and abilities participating in different types of activities, developed functional and social skills, and these activities promoted their integration in society, thereby giving them possibility to be socially active. Objectives of partnership set by the project - to cooperate with the Norwegian Association of the Blind (Norges Blindeforbund), also occurred successfully. Partnership agreement with Norges Blindeforbund was concluded regarding the cooperation in development of social rehabilitation and cognitive center "Soul Relieve Garden". Territorial zoning and technical draft project of social rehabilitation and educational center in the rural environment "Soul Relieve Garden" also was created. There were also regular consultations both by telephone and electronically as well as Norwegian partners visited Liepaja Society of the Blind from 20th to 23rd May 2014. In accordance with the established technical draft project and territorial zoning even after the end of this project cooperation will continue, attracting funding for the further implementation of "Soul Relieve Garden" project.
