Description

The main aim of the project is to increase the level of competitiveness and education of Roma children and young people by enhancing their motivation to learn and gain new knowledge, as well as to help them implement their creative ideas, promote cultural values among children and young people, and to strengthen the national identity of Roma children and young people. The project activities include both informal education as well as developing creative ideas of Roma children and young people, and formal education, including serious and efficient learning assistance to Roma children facing difficulties during their school time. The activities planned within the project will promote integration of Roma children and young people in the society and widen their practical experience. The Roma children and young people will gain knowledge and practical skills thus increasing their competitiveness. The target group of the project is Roma children aged 8–12 and young people living in Daugavpils City.

Summary of project results

The project was necessary to enable Roma children and young people to continue their education in schools and to promote their motivation to study and to gain new knowledge. The project aim was to raise competitiveness and the level of education of Roma children and young people, to help Roma children and young people to realize their creative ideas, to promote the cultural values among young people and children, as well as to strengthen the Roma youth and children's national identity. The target group was 113 Roma children and young people. The project has contributed to the inclusion of Roma children and young people into modern society, as well as provided the opportunity for the society to explore Roma children’s and young people's creative potential. During the project the following results have been achieved: - Extra-curricular activities of Roma children in Latvian, mathematics and English (18 lessons in each subject) to prepare homeworks, get additional consultations; - 37 thematic creative classes for Roma children with games, creative tasks, video clips, musical challenges, the creation of a performances ("Autumn says," Winter is coming! "," The Adventures of Spring "," Great Summer ") to develop the children's concentration and memory and to open children's creativity; - art workshop "The World seen by Roma children ", which was attended by 15 Roma children and young people, as well as the exhibition "The World seen by Roma children” in Daugavpils; - workshop "Harvest Festival" for 14 Roma children, handicraft exhibition, mask making workshop for 15 Roma children, Christmas fancy dress ball; - sewing courses for young Roma "Romfashion", which lasted 112 hours, during which it was developed and sewn both routine and national costumes; - accessories crafting workshop for 8 Roma girls; - attendance of the exhibition "School 2014" (45 participants); - xylography workshop for 11 young Roma; - ceramic workshop 15 young Roma and; - fashion show in Daugavpils (15 young Roma were participants).
