Description

Scanorama Shortcut, a workshop for short film filmmakers, aims at expanding theoretical novice artists’ knowledge with practical film making aspects. The project will help 10 film debutantes (5 from Lithuania and 5 from Iceland) to shorten their way to success by providing those future film professionals with priceless skills of entrepreneurship, art of negotiation, communication and creativeness. All these skills are going to come in handy when making the future projects attractive to its possible sponsors. When filling the gaps between theory and practical knowledge, Scanorama Shortcut participants will be led by professional specialist of various fields, experienced experts of enterprise and leadership, psychologists. Participants will expand their knowledge in seminars, creative workshops, individual and groups work. They will have a unique opportunity to compare two film industries of similar size, but different tradition, as well as share their ideas with like-minded people. These activities will be filmed, edited, subtitled and published on the Internet as video seminars. One project publicity event will be organized in each of the countries. In order to increase youth awareness of the topic, the project results will be presented in Art Incubators in selected regions. Furthermore, two creativity workshops will be held in retirement homes.

Summary of project results

This project was inspired by the lack of educational events, dedicated for short films directors and producers, which lead to lack of quality short films. The project “Scanorama Shortcut” was initiated by two reasons – to implement a project that could foster short film creators to reach for new standarts of quality and relevancy (the subject and goal of the project) and to create strong partnership with international partners (non direct result of the activities). The project helped 10 film debutantes (5 from Lithuania and 5 from Iceland) to shorten their way to success by providing those future film professionals with priceless skills of entrepreneurship, art of negotiation, communication and creativeness. Project promoter organized selection of Lithuanian participants and RIFF was responsible for 5 participants selection form Island. These 10 young (aged 15-25) film creators participated in workshops in Iceland (5 days) and Lithuania (5 days). It was a unique opportunity for 10 selected artists to gain magnificent international experience and practical knowledge. Participants of the project was encouraged to make films about acute problems (intolerance, socially excluded people, culture problems of regions’ habitants), share internationals experience in finding solutions for creative problems, take a fresh look at film making funding opportunities, share intercultural experience during the workshops. To raise publicity of the project and in need to make lectures publicly accessible, lectures was filmed, edited, subtitled. 18 videos was posted on web: http://www.scanorama.lt/en/shortcut/video. Some seminars and workshops was dedicated for fostering of tolerance and non-discrimination, for example, one of the workshops took place in retirement home in Klaipėda region (photo gallery: http://www.scanorama.lt/album/shortcut/scanorama-shortcut-kelione-po-li…).

Summary of bilateral results

Lack of quality artistic production is acute both in Lithuania and Iceland and all the partners have faced it earlier. RIFF initiated this project together with project promoter because of mutual problem of the lack of quality short films, which would be interesting for international markets and belief that with shared knowledge they can solve this problem. RIFF’s participation in the project ensured better quality of the project because of it’s rich experience in international cinematic educational projects. RIFF is familiar with international problems of short films makers and problems of filmmakers of small film market what is close to Lithuanian film market. Participation in this project widen horizons of RIFF’s film selection and results of this project should incite increase of Lithuanian short films, participating in RIFF and ignite transcultural dialogue between. This project was a unique opportunity for 10 selected artists from both countries (Lithuania and Iceland) to gain magnificent international experience and practical knowledge!
