Description

The youth are less interested in hiking as a hobby, a sport, or a lifestyle. The nature-close organizations do not reflect properly to the changing needs of the society that is why the recruitment of membership is held off. The main objective of the project is to popularize hiking, to form the aspect of youth about it and to ensure them a complex free time activity that strengthens the body and cares about the soul. The project promoter wants to strengthen the advocacy skills of these youth thus it will realize a system for sharing opinions. It also aims to involve 25 new members, to reach 20 people who will take part in youth counselling and to organize road shows. The project promoter will announce a hiking championship for the target group that includes children mainly above the age of 8. 4 primary and 4 secondary schools will be involved but elder youth are also expected to take part. Indirectly the project will reach 2000 people.

Summary of project results

The youth need motivation to get to know the nature better and to live together with it, a community place, where they find the comfort zone of their self-realization and tasks that make them feel responsible towards nature. The goal of the organization was to increase the effectiveness of health education and the popularity of hiking as a sport and a lifestyle among the 8-35 age group. They advertised hiking in schools and established a youth organization within the association. The organizers gave school presentations to promote hiking and motivational training for students, they organized a national student hiker championship and started the Hungarian wanderers for the protection of the natural movement, the Rambler movement. The project was successful as hundreds of children and youth were reached by the programs (the roadshows and championship, and national assembly), and due this process a new approach of youngsters was fostered in this respect. 8 ramblers were trained at the project who will multiply the effects as they will continue the launched awareness raising process. The links between children and youth and organizations supporting hiking was strengthened as well, and the probability of these children joining to civic organizations was increased. A conference was organized as well, which generated dialogue between hiking civil society organizations and governmental, state actors about the possible ways of children’s engagement. The project promoter established 20 new cooperations as a result of the project, and 26 new volunteers were recruited, thus the reputation and visibility of the project promoter was enhanced. The Ramblers movement, the roadshows and the established Youth Council with 16 participants created new tools and methods for the project promoter to use, and this way its membership was refreshed, and now they are more effective in involving youngsters into their work.
