Description

Mothers’ basic human rights are violated in obstetric care in Hungary. Most women don’t know their rights, opportunities, scientific results related to birth. Disadvantaged communities are vulnerable, have no equal opportunities. The goal of the project is to raise awareness of perinatal events, importance of social support. Expected aim of the project is to grow participants’ assertiveness and ability to enforce their interests, to achieve the change of their attitude and behaviour,and to improve communication between professionals, further cooperation between Module and its partners. The expected outcome is a perinatal training for the target group, by the end of the project participants elaborate an action plan to summarize their experiences, and the possibilities to extend their network to transfer good practices. During the project the project promoter develops participants and their ability to enforce interests and introduce holistic maternity care. The target group of the project are prospective mothers, mothers, grandmothers of disadvantaged settlements, NGOs, institutions will be involved as supporting target group.

Summary of project results

Mother’s human rights are often violated and not respected during obstetric care which the majority of women don’t know.Those living in villages in deprived areas are the most vulnerable and equal opportunity is not provided. A network was built among the participants.The knowledge, good practices and the holistic approach can further facilitate social change.To improve the participants’ ability to enforce their interests.To promote spreading information about holistic care. Assertivity of the target group and their ability to inforce their interests grew.Communication between obstetric staff and the target group improved, a change in outlook and behaviour has begun.4 doula trainings were held with 40 participants.16 showings of the film MicroBirth were held at 16 locations for 250 people. A nation-wide announcement and application on a voluntary basis.Following the workshops the experiences of the project and the possibilities of spreading these further were summed at a closing meeting.
