Description

There are no forums for problems of single mothers in North-Eastern Hungary. Live on one income, make decisions alone, stand up and survive from an abusive relationship, save the children from the negative sides of the situation - between the patriarchal relations of the Hungarian society, indeed a difficult task in the absence of a supporting medium. It is urgently needed to collect, describe and make visible the life situation and crisis of single mums. As a result of a research a lobby activity can be launched to boost social sensitivity and actions. We aim to give a voice to single mothers in crisis, we would like to transmit to the local government and community the needs and problems of local mothers living without a partner. We aim to strengthen solidarity and social awareness by implementing campaigns and events. We also support single mothers through self-help groups. During the project we develop a methodology and become able to pass on our model and recommendations.

Summary of project results

In Hungary every fifth family have a single parent. This number grows continuously and in 86 % there are only mothers. However they may seem invisible. The project had 3 main purposes: supporting single mothers, making society more sensible and improving the target group’s lobbying. We have achieved it. They could reach a new target group whose life quality improved by community support. Theycould help the target group’s lobbying with messages to the society, 7 activities and the results of the project. Self-help and power to changegroups, mentoring, babysitting, blog, forumtheatre, performance, conference, radioprogramme, magazine, photography exhibition, flashmob, lobbying, methodology. They could reach 50 people directly from the target group and indirectly far more nationwide. The greatest result of the project is that we could make single parents visible and audible. We had no donor partner in our project.
