Description

The biggest losers of the regime change were the Roma population (especially those living in the North Hungarian region, and in Sajókaza in particular). The objective will be for the trained radio operators to encourage and help to establish similar community radio stations in other settlements. In the project a studio will be created for educational purposes; a community radio operator training programme will be elaborated; a Roma community radio station will be established, and future radio operators will be trained. The outputs of the project are a training curriculum, a teaching studio, training sessions, radio station preparation in Sajókaza, creation and interior designing of the studio there as well as organisation (and implementation) of the first live broadcasting event. The project will benefit the students of Sajókaza and the employees of Tilos Radio involved in the training.

Summary of project results

The community radio of Sajókaza is a ray of hope for the hard favoured and under privileged Romany youth; a small but important step on their way of integration. Tilos created and put into practice a complex community radio's course for students at the College of Dr. Ámbédkár of Sajókaza. A diverse teaching method was developed by Tilos crew to emphasise on the large scale of skills a radio co-worker needs to interiorise. Apart from being a radio presenter, there is great need to acquire the ability of the use of technical appliances or audio softwares and basic skills to apply for tenders. The students were free to experience the practices by attending live, interactive broadcasts at the studios of Tilos. This phase was followed by numerous academic and even more practical sessions to step by step hand over the knowledge on how to broadcast independently; the methods and tricks of picking a topic, editing the work, making an interview, all the way to implementing post editorial works
