Description

The recent EU Parliamentary Election shows that citizens –especially those who are disappointed in politics, have a lower level of consciousness and initiative power, they turn a side from public life or start believing in demagogic messages of extreme parties. It is known that a stable, successful, democratic and socially sensitive society can only emerge from a strong and efficient civic sphere thus NGOs and actors of civic initiations should be more informed and developed. The objective of the project is to improve the democracy, to strengthen the efficiency and advocacy competencies of civic actors, to involve and activate the disappointed citizens. It aims to develop and strengthen the civic network system and social embeddedness of the Tilos. New radio shows will be launched with volunteers who are experienced in civic sector: they will introduce different projects and initiations. As well as two mobile applications, Facebook-page and a website will be realized. The project will target to achieve 60-80 organizations, 24-30000 listeners and 10000 readers a day, with the community of the Radio with its volunteers will count 4-500 persons.

Summary of project results

The European Union parliamentary elections shows that everyday people disappointed in politics and the low-level organized citizens turn away from public life. Vibrant civil society is needed to build up assertive society and that is one of the basic conditions for democratic societies. To contribute to this the Radio Tilos created new show entitled Civilization, in order to provide opportunities to civil society organizations to present and promote themselves, mainly for those who are not so visible or active in PR. They looked for program creators who worked in rotation in every 8 weeks with the same themes. The main aim of the radio program was to convince the audience that it is worth being an active, proactive citizen or being involved into civil society and into the work of civil society organizations. They also provided opportunities to civil society organizations to take part at the fundraising festival of the radio besides the regular programs. The audience could choose from different programs about civil society and the nonprofit sector and they also could hear the programs on the website of the radio as well. As a result of the project the Radio Tilos has become the voice and media of civil society organizations. The smaller organizations were provided the opportunity to present their organizations and the problems they would like to handle. The importance of civic activism was highlighted in the project, and also the essence of bottom up processes were promoted widely. Several volunteers were recruited as a result of the project, who actively took part at editing and concluding the programs of the radio as well. Thus a permanent editorial team was built. The project was a huge success from the view of the life and operation of the Radio, as the could generated new debate processes through they improved a lot organizationally. Altogether 65 programs were created and broadcasted as a result of the project, 99 civil society organizations could show up in the radio and they invited guest 14 times.
