Description

In Hungary nowadays, people with certain disabilities are not tolerated by the society. Within the framework of our project the disabled people are placed into the position of a creator, presenter or supporter. Those, who have certain drawbacks can recognize themselves in a new role and develop new skills. They can project an image of their real self, their aims and abilities. We believe that people reached through online communication surfaces and during open air actions will turn to be more tolerant and sensitive towards disabilities. We imagine a „Mug orchestra” with sign language dancers, professional percussionists a Capella singing, pavement drawing and body painting. The result is a cathartic effect provided by everyday people living with different disabilities. With our action and the attached campaign we try to call the attention of the public to the importance and the strength that lies behind openness, common activity, creativity and tolerance without prejudices. Our partner organization Cromo Foundation, as well as other partners are organizations dealing with the advocacy of disabled people and MÜSZI cultspace.

Summary of project results

The project was needed to dispel prejuidice and make society more tolerant towards people with disabilities. The Cup-phonia prjocet is the practical application of tolerance, equal opportunities, and showcasing versatility. The project will live on with the continued participation of our partners and beneficiaries. We achieved our objective by drawing public attention to the prejuidice against the handicapped with the help of planning and running a flashmob at the Budapest spring festival and with three other planned flashmobs. With 800 people attending these events and with national media coverage our campaign has reached a sizable portion of the country. Our beneficiaries where involved as artistic preformers in all four of the flashmobs. In this way they were able to recognise themselves in a new role, develop new skills, and thus new opportunities opened up for them. Our main partner, the Cromo foundation, provided practical experience in project manegement.
