Description

In public issues people do not always express their opinions- furthermore, there are not any possibilities to discuss local matters. The reason of this situation can be the fact that there are not any practice nor motivation of social participation and taking part in decision-making processes. This passive participation affects youth and their attitudes. The objective of the project is to create a community radio in order to ensure a communication channel for youth to express their opinions, and establish a place of common and constructive thinking. During the project implementation several activities will be realized like fundraising workshops, community programs, flash mobs, trainings (improving different competencies), developing a website for the Radio, establishing the Radio Studio and equipping it and creating radio shows. The target group consists of 6 civic organizations, 6 mentors and local youth.

Summary of project results

In public issues people do not always express their opinions- furthermore, there are not any possibilities to discuss local matters. The reason of this situation can be the fact that there is not any practice or motivation of social participation and taking part in decision-making processes. This passive participation affects youth and their attitudes. The objective of the project was to create a community radio in order to ensure a communication channel for youth to express their opinions, and establish a place of common and constructive thinking. 23 workshops for staff development were held in order to learn and revive schedule, tasks, communication and all the related assignments. In the progress of the project mentors, representatives of collaborating organizations and editors joined to the workshops. This workshop also gave the frames for planning the broadcasting 13 times so the structures and teams were set up. Altogether 150 people joined to the project, from 90 youth 50 youngsters between the ages of 16 and 30 became a volunteer and members of the radio, 21 mentors helped them through the project so youth became able to express their opinion, to use the radio equipment and to plan and realize broadcasting. During the project the radio visited and broadcasted from 32 community events. At the beginning only previously recorded shows where available but later on – thankfully to the several trainings for youth – live shows became available. Communication, Active citizenship and radio related professional competence trainings were organized so youth developed a lot, and became able to express their opinion in the thematic shows. The popularity of the radio can be seen as participating youngsters realized 2 broadcasting days at the beginning but later 5 days a week. The online broadcasting is still available http://cirmi.org/. During the project the archive broadcasts were listened by 16398 people, 939 broadcasts were made and youth accomplished 3782 volunteer hours. The Fundraising workshops made the participants more conscious about sustaining the radio; they already funded a foundation in order to ensure the maintenance and further development of the radio.
