Description

There is a lack of effective policy according to the integration problems of Roma youth in Hungary. The school system faces a complex task based on Roma students, because of the failure caused by the frontal school system the Roma students cannot keep up the syllabus thus they lose their ability to proactive activities. Our objective is to increase the socialization and attentional capacity of children. Verbal skills will be developed and perspective thinking method will be evolved. The participating schools and the minority organizations will be able to implement the projects. The cooperation between communities and schools will provide the background of sustainability. The planned activities are mentoring -skill and competency development with drama pedagogic methods-, leadership-training weekends, summer-time art camp and trainings. The target group is youth in ten disadvantaged small towns, teachers who feel affinity for art education: approx. 35-40 persons. The youth of Miskolc who have desire for change (200-250 persons), as well as representatives of active minority communities who are prepared to operate amateur art groups (35-40 persons).

Summary of project results

There is a lack of effective policy according to the integration problems of Roma youth in Hungary. The school system faces a complex task based on Roma students, because of the failure caused by the frontal school system the Roma students cannot keep up the syllabus thus they lose their ability to proactive activities. The goal of the organization is to increase the socialization and attentional capacity of children living in marginalized rural areas. So that they provided mentoring support on the most marginalized small rural 10 settlements of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county in order to positively change the attitudes and behaviour. As a result of the project, the involved youth now able to articulate their needs, and the long term design and planning became their new perspective, so they are more conscious now in planning their life, and making decisions. These children were involved into communities through the different programs provided for them, and they could get closer to each other and also to their middle class fellows. 24 youth were actively mentored and 68 youngsters took part altogether at the project. 5 artistic groups were created and 2 associations were established for these youth groups to enhance their further common work in formalized frames. The project implementers were continuously available at these settlements, and organized different kinds of art programs (e.g. drama, theater, etc.) for the children. The basic competencies of these youngsters were improved, and now these communities can more effectively articulate their needs and interests due to this empowerment process.
