Description

In the communities of Knin and Vukovar, children of different ethnic backgrounds have been exposed to unsolved issues related to the war and historical heritage, war trauma passed on to them by their parents and family members, prejudice, hate speech and feelings of guilt for the events that took place before they were born but that still play an important role in their daily lives. The objective of the project is to establish an integrated school in the multi-ethnic area of Vukovar by renovating a school building and developing a curricula, and to conduct a feasibility study to evaluate existing curricula and educational needs in Knin. The project foresees several outcomes, including the development of an integrated and intercultural preschool and primary school curricula, the renovation of a school building in Vukovar, and a feasibility study that will be the basis for the development of an integrative and intercultural approach to education in Knin. The main target groups of the project are parents, children and teachers of the targeted communities. Final beneficiaries are local communities in Vukovar and Knin and the Croatia as a whole.

Summary of project results

This programme included establishing an integrated school in the multi-ethnic area of Vukovar by securing all material, professional and programme requirements in order to offer a new possibility in reaching social recovery of the post conflict and multi-ethnic communities and a higher level of understanding, respect and cooperation between minority groups and the majority.Main achievements: Common preschool institution and primary school building in Vukovar fully renovated, equipped and registered and iIntegrative and intercultural curriculum developed.
