Description

This project’s goal is the education and empowerment of minors in order to defend the democratic values and human rights on the Internet (respecting the responsibilities that derive from those rights), in the same way they do it in the real world. The main target groups are a) minors (up to 18 years) and b) education professionals. The proposed actions of this project are based on participatory, active learning and encompass a) 13 webinars (seminars) towards schools of the country, b) creation of an educational tool addressing primary school kids, covering the duration of 20 didactical hours, c) training of 500 education professionals on the above tool, special training in online hate speech issues, d) "app" creation, based on the distinguished children's book "The Internet Farm", e) implementation of 5 performances of “The Internet Farm’” theatrical play in a central theater of Athens.

Summary of project results

To project actively contributed to eliminate the ignorance of minors in relation to the democratic values that govern the Internet. By participating in polymorphic educational and awareness raising activities, children of all ages were empowered to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need, so that the Internet reflects the fundamental principles laid down for the real world: the agreed principles for over 60 years, known as human rights, focusing on the rules that should govern our daily existence. Through active, participatory education and innovative information and cultural activities with core the children themselves, the project a) promoted digital literacy from early age, b) supported children to defend their rights but also to respect the obligations arising from these rights in the virtual and the physical world, c) strengthened the children to speak without fear if they become victims of any form of hate speech, discrimination or bullying and to feel strong in dealing with such situations, d) promoted the creative participation of children in shaping the Internet based on the respect for human rights and the principles of democratic participation. In parallel, the project equipped teachers with valuable, innovative knowledge and educational material on these issues, making them direct multipliers of that knowledge to their underage students. Surpassing its goals, the project directly benefited 39.700 students and 885 teachers, expecting to further benefit at least 38.000 students of all education levels.
