Description

This project will work with several citizens associations of San Juan de Aznalfarache and Avilés on the design and implementation of new models of municipal co-management that allow citizens to be and feel responsible in the search for ways of approaching the issue of social exclusion and the fight the racist and xenophobic discourses that are inherent in it, especially in places with a presence of foreigners and/or minority groups. The specific objectives of the project are the following: - To strengthen the role of the social fabric in the structures of local participation in San Juan de Aznalfarache and Avilés, thereby developing a social awareness strategy on associativity, community organization, social exclusion and a supportive local economy. - To raise awareness among the citizens of San Juan de Aznalfarache on the positive value of living in a multicultural society through the implementation of a Cultures Fair. - To inform the citizens from both municipalities about the project and the role of European Union in its funding.

Summary of project results

For over 12 months the teams of Cooperation Asssembly for Peace in Andalusia and Asturias have implemented a Project that has run parallel in both regions called “Municipalities without racism, Towns for inclusion”. Both teams have worked shoulder with shoulder, but each of them followed the rhythms that the realities in each town demanded, adapting to an evolving reality and taking advantage of the network that was being built. In Asturias the aim was to strengthen the local network (called Local Group for Immigration) and several awareness raising campaigns on interculturality took place. During the project implementation in Andalusia a debate and advocacy group was developed. This group developed useful tools like a Plan for Integration together with the municipality, which will be implemented after the project completion. The general objective was to push for a more participatory local democracy in order to answer to the new social needs and fight against hate speech.
