Description

The issue that the project is addressing is that rubber is not recyclable, which is a problem for all products that include rubber based materials. The main objective of the project is to develop a new washer muffle, using an elastomeric thermoplastic material. The advantages include: - The product is recyclable after its life cycle is completed. - Reduced production costs of such thermoplastic pieces. The project CIKAUTXO will develop a new thermoplastic material of SEBS or PP / EPDM type that is soft and has good resistance to abrasion. This is intended to transmit low vibration, with high abrasion resistance and detergents commonly used in washing machines. CIKAUTXO will also define the complex geometries of the product, to make it more appropriate for the new type of material considering the reaction forces of the product with the goal of designing a product from thermoplastic that transmits the same or less than. To develop and formulate new material and define new geometries, CIKAUTXO has established collaboration with a Research Center (LEARTIKER) and R&D unit of the company CIKATEK.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project is to develop a new washer muffle an elastomeric thermoplastic material that allows on one hand, make pieces of a recyclable material when its life cycle is completed and on the other, reducing the production costs of such thermoplastic pieces. In the project it has been successfully developed a new thermoplastic material of SEBS or PP / EPDM type that is soft, with good resistance to abrasión, and which transmits low vibration, with high abrasion resistance and detergents commonly used in washing machines. It has also been defined the complex geometries of the piece to make them more appropriate to the new type of material considering the reaction forces of the piece with the goal of designing a piece of thermoplastic that transmits the same or less than they transmit now the pieces of rubber. The Project has already finished, and it has been a complete success.
