Description

PEM technology is an efficient and low polluting way of producing hydrogen. Unfortunately the PEM generators are expensive and mainly manufactured for research programs, universities and technical experts working with high purity Hydrogen. The cost of the generators limits the possibility of expanding the use of hydrogen applications, including the future for hydrogen vehicles. The aim of the project is to move the PEM hydrogen electrolyzer design to a more simplified version that will expand the market, and enable other business models such as produce hydrogen on-demand (in-situ). Producing hydrogen on-demand (in-situ) versus distributing and storing hydrogen cylinders has many advantages: - No safety installation needed (required when you store hydrogen). - Hydrogen could be produce on-demand in multiple places without calling for changes in infrastructure (pipes, cylinder storage, etc.). - Operational costs are reduced.

Summary of project results

Hydrogen is always in the mind of all people involved in sustainable activities but the key issues are always there: cost and distribution. This program is just focused in both: 1) Local hydrogen production (based in renewables) with PEM technology, the unique way to produce H2 in a sustainable way (reformation, alkaline, etc. all generate waste and contamination). 2) Reduction of PEM electrolyser cost, re-engineering the most expensive parts of the machine with an Innovative approach. Hidrogena is very satisfied with the results achieved with this program and hopes to find the correct Strategy/Partner to implement the results in the market, either Private or even better a Public partnership. New architecture tested in this program is notably more economic tan previous one used in our Company and maybe in the market. We'll work to obtain the impact that Hydrogen needs to move from "experimental" to real life products.
