Description

There is a need to organize community interventions for crime prevention among children and youth in these three municipalities. The aim of the project is to develop sustainable collaboration between different specialists and institutions that support children and young people. The Project is expected to increase the responsibility of children, young people, parents and community members for what is happening in society; rising the attitudes of young people to their own surroundings and preventing them from turning to crime. During this project, young people will realize at least 15 initiatives to improve their surroundings and make them less risky and at the same time to develop a sense of their responsibilities to society. Children, youngsters and parents will benefit from the project. Project partners participate in activities that will be carried out in partner municipalities as well.

Summary of project results

In an area near the border, far away from big towns are few people and skills of them play big role in crime prevention. Local community must pay attention to using human resources efectively. The goal of the project was that after the project the environment around the children and youth in the area would consider their needs and support their attitudes living as law abiding citizens. To achieve this many activities were done. Local crime prevention network. Before the project it worked more as a case-based network, but during the project it has changed to a crime prevention network with specialists from 3 local governments. Local and cross-border meetings were held and very important part was trainings for the specialists such as how to engage youth to local activities and joint activities with youth were also done. Thanks to the project crime prevention network now works. Youth engagement. Youth had discussion rounds in two stages. First problems of the local communities were mapped. Second on the basis of the mapped problems, ideas were generated how to solve these. So that youth would feel more secure in the community and the community would understand the needs of the youth. The problems brought up by youngsters were taken to the local governments and it started to solve the matters right away. This was the part of the project that gave instant impact for the community life. Creating action strategy. Strategy with the next steps to imrpove the life in communities were created engaging youngsters to it. So it takes into consideration the need of the youth also in the coming years. Youth fund. Children and youth handed in their ideas what practical matters needs to be solved and what they could solve with a little help from the local government. Fund decided to support ideas from every community and youngsters started to fulfill the ideas with a small financial help from the project. For example football goals and playgrounds were painted with the help from parents and other people from the communities. The idea behind this is that what children create, they do not break. Project in numbers: 30 specialists were trained; Action strategy for 7 communities was created; 100 children and youth took part of mapping problems in the communities; 15 youth projects were carried out; 200 community members were engaged; 20% more youth attend to youth centers and their activities.
