The purchase of ultrasound device and retinal camera will increase the prevention of diseases. An informational booklet for parents will also be created by a working group consisting of the neonatologist, ophthalmologist, psychologist, physical therapist, special educator and speech therapist. Children and their parents will benefit from this project. There is no donor project partner.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project was to achieve greater efficiency in preventing and tackling the consequences of perinatal disabilities of children via extension and improvement of medical and paramedical services of Developmental Care Centre of Neonatal Department at Plzeň Teaching Hospital. The aim of the CVP’s activity is to minimise the consequences of perinatal disability of at-risk children, their integration into the family, the education system and broader society and so to allow disabled individuals to participate in the well-being of society. The project consisted of fulfilment of suggested measures with the main aim to create a neonatal department where it is possible to undergoing several medical examinations during a single visit. Outputs delivered: I:Number of children benefiting from the improved preventive activities: target - 1300 achievement - 1763 I:Number of programmes of primary and secondary prevention: target – 1, achievement – 1 The expected outcome of the project was to create a programme of primary and secondary prevention. This programme consists of four main parts: 1) to equip the CVP with ultrasound scanner – this scanner scanner is equipped for examining small objects and tissue changes of any organ. The purchase of a modern ultrasound scanner made possible to perform all the necessary ultrasound examinations in small children at the CVP. The risk of a child being infected was eliminated. 2) to equip the CVP with camera for retinal examination - there are many other pathological eye finding at an early age which require ophthalmic monitoring and treatment. In view of the fact that small children are usually uncooperative, conventional eye examinations become difficult, and often impossible, and for these cases a retinal camera represents a significant benefit. 3) to include to the medical team a speech therapist and special needs teacher and to renovate, furnish and decorate their consulting rooms and the waiting room (toys and interactive elements) for parents and children. 4) to published an informative brochure for parents with the main aim to give parents a description of the main diagnoses in the case of a perinatally at-risk child, to explain the treatment and nursing procedures, and to emphasise the point of involving the parents in developmental care. The project will benefit perinatally at-risk children and their parents.
