Description

The project addresses the need to provide the parents of infants aged 0-3 with support and a place to voice their concerns. The project aims at using the UNICEF methodology Workshops for Parents to enable the parents in 6 cities to share experience and knowledge. First, the 6 partners will coordinate their work. Second, 20 experts (psychology, infant health, social services) from the partner organizations will be trained to apply the UNICEF methodology. Third, the partners will carry out information campaigns in the 6 cities and form groups of parents. Next, 180 parents of infants will take part in 12 workshops in the 6 cities. Finally, 18 members of the partner organizations will be trained to carry out advocacy campaigns to ensure the sustainability of the results. The project will benefit the parents of infants involved, the experts and the local community. The partners will organize the workshops for parents and apply the UNICEF methodology in their city.

Summary of project results

The main goal of the project was to introduce UNICEF’s practice Workshop for Parents in five district cities that have recognized the need of obtaining information, knowledge and skills for fully-fledged parenting and where highly motivated organizations and institutions are in place with the capacity to develop and ensure sustainability of new activities targeted at families in need of this service. As a result of the activities carried out, the Workshop for Parents practice was introduced in the five cities and the workshop provides new services for early childhood development to families with children. 20 experts working in 10 teams were prepared. 10 Workshops for Parents were set up and 120 workshops were organized with 180 parents of children aged 0-3. The public forums held in the five cities addressed the issues of early childhood development in the context of public interest. The advocacy campaign attracted the attention and commitment of local authorities and the responsible institutions and organizations that are united in their efforts to ensure that the new practices introduced under the project are sustainable. The network of organizations providing the new social service assists not only in ensuring the quality of the service but also its multiplication. The project was fulfilled in partnership with Petar Stapov Regional Library, Targovishte, TEMP-ART Non-profit Association, Vratsa, Napredak 1901 Community Centre, the town of Razgrad, Centre Radost Association, Blagoevgrad, Obedinenie 1913 Community Centre, Kardzhali.
