Description

The project addresses the need to boost the capacity of the student councils set up by UNICEF in the period 2012-2014 in Blagoevgrad, Sliven and Montana districts (17 school, 8 municipal and 1 district student councils). The project aims at boosting their capacity via the cooperative planning approach. First, 9 2-day trainings will be held in Sliven District with representatives of the local administration and student councils to build the capacity for partnership. Second, trained local experts and consultants will develop a programme and carry out a 6-month-long cooperative planning to boost the role of student councils in decision-making. Third, a small grant scheme will be launched to support individual initiatives of student councils. Finally, a round table will be held with the student councils and municipal/district authorities involved to share experience and good practices. The project will benefit the students, school staff, local authorities and the public in general.

Summary of project results

The project addressed the need to boost the capacity of the student councils set up by UNICEF in the period 2012-2014 in Blagoevgrad, Sliven and Montana districts (17 school, 8 municipal and 1 district student councils). It built capacity for partnership of stakeholders in the local community and the use of cooperative planning to solve the issue of children’s participation on municipal/district level. 286 participants were trained in cooperative planning, 205 of whom children and 81 adults. 17 training sessions in cooperative planning were held altogether. 9 children’s initiatives were supported under the project by small grants. 93 people took part in their implementation (children and adults). 60 partners joined in, including municipal and district administration, municipal councils, schools, youth homes, the media, Regional Inspectorates of Education and companies. The project had positive impact on the joint work of children’s councils and experts from municipal and district administrations and other institutions. One of the most important project results was increased recognition of children’s councils. For more information about the project, please, visit http://partnersbg.org/
