Summary of project results

The project addressed the need of the beneficiary organisation to build its capacity to work with traumatized children mourning the loss of a relative. The employees, volunteers and external experts of the organisation were trained under the project and thus the beneficiary’s capacity was boosted. A system was developed to support children experiencing grief. The survey and the seminars with experts organized showed lack of common standards to support children experiencing grief. Teachers, school principals and other specialists working with children were introduced to the developed system and now they would know some specific steps to provide children with specialized support. The approbation of the Norwegian experience in the Bulgarian context had significant impact and improved the professional knowledge of the participants. The following project outputs were delivered: Strategic plan for organizational and financial development of the beneficiary; Report from the survey with summed up data, conclusions and recommendations; Programme to support children in grief; Methodology for the use of the support system; Handbook for school principals to provide support; Multimedia presentations from the Conference and the Workshop; posters, leaflets, folders, brochures, section about the project on the organization’s website.

Summary of bilateral results

The main achievements of the partnership are related to enhanced knowledge of the partners about NGO management and ways of work with children experiencing grief. As a result of the project in Bulgaria was developed a system for support of children experiencing grief which is quite innovative for the country. The study trip to Norway gave the Bulgarian partner the opportunity to get acquainted with the Norwegian experience for NGO management which enhanced their organisational capacity. The acquired know-how about the way of work in supporting children experiencing grief in Norway helped the Bulgarian experts expand their professional experience on the topic of evaluation of children’s necessities and provision of support in case of grieving. The partner organisations came to an agreement about extending their partnership after finishing the implementation of the project on topics related to children and agreed to participate together in the implementation of other projects in the field.
