Summary of project results

The project addressed the need to protect biodiversity, NATURA 2000 protection areas with the relevant bird and animal species. Its overall goal was to raise awareness about the challenges facing the environment and promote environmental heritage by studying biodiversity along Zlatarishka River (Dzhulyunska) in the area of the village of Dzhulyunitsa and the area included in Natura 2000 as well as about the protection and promotion of biodiversity in this area. The project provided for a fully new approach to education in school making pupils actively involved and helping them identify the different issues facing the environment and understand how their actions in different areas can influence the environment. The best practice of the project is the personal involvement of children in environment protection activities with the support of specialists from various institutions directly involved in biodiversity protection and research. The project implementation helped develop sense of responsibility in pupils towards the valuable aspects of the environment and their protection, the pupils being the main target group. The project raised the awareness of the school and local community about environmental issues and environment protection; developed the sensitivity towards the environment in the young people and established fruitful partnership with public institutions and organizations. The pupils learnt how to manage efficiently the school resources, i.e. water, energy and waste, as well as how to keep the school environment more beautiful, i.e. reduce waste, maintain the green areas in the school yard and protect trees. 9 computers and a TV set were purchased and provided for use by the pupils. They are used in the office of the project partner, P.R. Slaveikov Primary School, which became an eco area for children and where the classes of the target group took place. The planned project activities were organized together with the project partner and the partner also provided the financial reporting for the project.
