Description

The project addresses the need to raise the awareness of students and parents from mono-ethnic schools and communities (Bulgarian, Roma, Turkish) in Ruse District about intercultural communication, tolerance and respect for the other. The project aims at raising awareness by training the teachers and students. First, 12 teachers and 6 NGO staff will be trained in intercultural communication, children’s rights and trust building via games. Second, 240 children from Silistra and Ruse District (120 of them from the minorities) will be trained in intercultural communication and tolerance using the new model. Third, the students will have extracurricular classes to test the new knowledge through the arts (drawings, stories, theatre). Finally, 20 students will take part in a 5-day spring school on children’s rights. The project will benefit the students involved, their parents, teachers and the local community. The partner will adapt the methodology and train the applicant to use it.

Summary of project results

The project was stopped on 5.11.2015 by the Operator of the NGO Programme under the EEA Financial Mechanism because the project partner Paralel Silistra Association refused to continue its involvement in the project. The Beneficiary made an expense in the amount of 138.60 BGN (63.41 EUR) for the publication of a leaflet to raise the awareness of the target audience about the goals and expected results from project implementation. The Operator approved the expenditure, as the relevant documents supporting the costs were applied.
