Description

The project addresses the challenges of cultural heritage protection and the need of monitoring and analysis of the existing system to ensure its sustainability. The project aims at enhancing the capacity of ICOMOS-Bulgaria to meet the new challenges and carry out its work more efficiently. First, the good practices and knowledge of EU NGOs about monitoring the authorities will be analyzed and adapted. Second, a resource center will be set up to carry out trainings, analyses based on communication with related European organizations and case studies. Third, an online platform will be developed to provide relevant, useful and up-to-date information to ICOMOS members and their partner civil organizations in their efforts to improve collaboration with the authorities at all levels. Finally, specialized trainings will be organized. The project will boost the capacity of ICOMOS-Bulgaria ensuring higher efficiency of its efforts.

Summary of project results

The project contributed to improving the effectiveness of the work of the National Committee of ICOMOS for the protection and monitoring of cultural heritage. It supported the development of a modern management and organisational structure through the use of a web-based platform for gathering, selection and rapid dissemination of specialized information aimed at increasing the quality of knowledge and skills of the members of the National Committee of ICOMOS. Innovative approaches were used in the implementation of the project, which in the long term are expected to provide a positive impact on good governance, partnership activities, teamwork, work efficiency and public communication of the organization with the state and local administrations and with civil society. The methods for the project’s implementation were: • Monitoring and analysis system for the protection of cultural heritage and its parameters; • Expert assessments; • Verification - comparison with the experience data. The project is fully in line with the work of the National Committee of ICOMOS on the upgrade of the existing organization and improve the system of communication between the organization and the state and municipal administration; • Another result of the project was the establishment of a web based resource centre.
