Description

The project addresses the lack of monitoring and analysis of the findings from the medical check-ups of the Roma carried out by the mobile medical offices (MMOs) in 3 cities. The project aims at adopting a model of analysis of the findings to identify the most common diseases among the Roma, the future trends and the prevention policies. First, data will be collected about the number and scope of MMOs, the number and type of check-ups per year and the medical records for the last 2 years in Sofia, Montana and Dobrich. Second, the data collected from different sources will be analyzed and presented in a report. Finally, a round table with all the stakeholders will be held to present the most common diseases among the Roma. The project will benefit the Roma communities in the 3 cities, the health authorities, the local authorities, NGOs and the public in general. The partner will contribute with its experience and will share good practices for monitoring and analysis.

Summary of project results

There is no monitoring and analysis of the results from the examinations carried out among the Roma community by the mobile medical offices purchased under the PHARE programme. The project aimed at setting up a working model of analysis of the results from the examinations carried out based on which the most common diseases among the Roma were identified, the trends in their development were established and recommendations were made to overcome them. The expected result was efficient communication achieved with the stakeholders and a working model of monitoring and analysis of the data from the examinations in the future. The project fulfilled its goals and a useful model of analysis was developed that can be used for future examinations. In addition, the analysis will help the implementation of the Health Strategy for Disadvantaged People from Ethnic Minorities and the 2020 Health Strategy of Bulgaria. The team carried out three round tables in the cities of Dobrich, Montana and Sofia. People from different institutions attended them and were introduced to the analysis and the project promoter's proposals to improve the work of the mobile medical offices. The project itself raised the issue of follow-up post-diagnosis treatment in healthcare establishments of Roma without health insurances and whether funding can be allocated for such treatment and good practices from abroad can be identified.
