Description

The aim of this project is a two week research internship at the NMBU and Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute in As, Norway. The overall objectives of this project are (1) to strengthen the cooperation between MENDELU, NMBU and Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute; (2) to increase the knowledge about the microscope techniques and forest protection against the pathogens (two courses during two weeks stay lead by Dr. Nina Nagy and Dr. Isabella Borja from Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute); (3) to work on joint publication (data evaluation from a former Norwegian grant - A/CZ0046/2/0009); (4) to implement know-how from research stay in the classes in the Czech Republic (courses 'Plant anatomy and physiology' and 'Measurements in biology').

Summary of project results

The project consisted of two courses: (i) the course of minirhizotron techniques lead by Isabella Borja and (ii) workshop on microscopy techniques by Nina Elisabeth Nagy. During the workshop were investigated roots and stomata of stressed specimens of Norway spruce which is threatened by the dieback from currently unknown reasons. The workshops took place in As, Norway, both in the field and in the laboratory. Applicant learnt selected techniques used in the plant ecophysiological research which will be applicable for the research of Norway spruce dieback in the Czech Republic. They processed the samples of plant material collected in Norway and brought by the car from the Czech Republic. Also, they discussed prospect for the future cooperation and future project proposals regarding the forest health.
