Description
The initiative''s objective is to strengthen bilateral relations by forming a partnership between an Icelandic and a Slovak school, i.e. Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík and Spojená škola. By creating a chance for Science teachers of both schools to meet and discuss the conditions and ins and outs of teaching Science, specifically Chemistry, in the 21st century where environment-friendly innovations and smart solutions are the crux of a global discussion, a platform for exchanging know-how will be established. Thus, much needed reflection and improvement of overall quality of education and training
Summary of the results
The visit of the premises of the Icelandic school was very enlightening according to the participants. They saw how Icelandic teachers work, what materials they use, and what issues and challenges an Icelandic school has to tackle these days.
The initiative''s objective to improve mutual knowledge and understanding between Iceland and Slovakia was definitely achieved. Both sides were eager to learn as much as possible about their partners’ home countries and partners themselves. A workshop where Slovak participants share their findings and acquired know-how with their colleagues is planned to take place in February 2024 during the Slovak school’s “staff’s workshop day” - a special event for employees.
A study summarising Icelandic and Slovak national curricula in terms of schools'' approach was written, too, based on the discussions held - "A Comparative Analysis of Secondary School Teaching Conditions and the Implementation of School Curricula in terms of Teaching Science at an Icelandic and a Slovak Secondary School".
