Description
The project addresses the air quality measurement system in the areas of Prague 6 where local heating plants cause air quality problems. Examples of such locations are Sedlec in the Vltava River valley, or the rural development in the Liboc area. Complaints about local heating plants also occur in these localities. Acquisition and installation of 10 air quality sensor stations and 3 meteorological stations for the purpose of local air monitoring with emphasis on local heating sites in problematic parts of Prague 6. The aim is to build an online monitoring system that will be operated by an authorised group and controlled by an accredited person. The data will be transmitted to a public portal.
Summary of project results
The implementation of the project to measure air pollution caused by local heating plants in problematic areas of Prague 6 was very important for us for several fundamental reasons. In the project, we focused on solving long-term air quality problems in specific locations, such as Sedlec and Liboc, where complaints about local heating plants were frequent. These areas are characterised by pollution caused by local heating, which has a negative impact on the health of residents and the environment.
As part of the project, we installed a network of sensors and weather stations to locate sources of pollution and provide up-to-date information on the state of the air. The data obtained from these measurements served to identify critical areas and allowed us to intervene more effectively and plan remedial measures. In addition, regular monitoring enabled the municipality to better inform and involve citizens in efforts to improve air quality, thereby increasing their ownership of pollution. The project had several specific objectives. These included improving public awareness through regular data sharing on websites and social media. This included basic information about the project and the Norway Grants, public meetings, articles in local media, Facebook posts, distribution of information leaflets, press conferences and press releases, and the production of a PR video. These activities aimed to raise awareness of the problem and promote active public involvement in addressing air pollution. The operation, analysis and interpretation of the data was carried out by a person authorised under the Air Act, which guaranteed the accuracy and validity of the data obtained. Overall, the project contributed to the improvement of air quality in Prague 6 and increased public awareness of air pollution and the possibilities of solving it.
Overall, the project helped us not only to improve air quality in problematic areas of Prague 6, but also to raise public awareness of the importance of environmental protection. This project provided a model that can be used in other city districts and regions to effectively monitor and improve air quality.
