Description

The project "Improvement of microclimatic functions in the localities of ul. Na Hrázi and Sokolská" was developed as a follow-up to the "Adaptation strategy of the city of Přerov to climate change for the period 2021-2030", which was supported as part of call No. SGS-3 "Oslo". The subject of this project is the revitalization of two locations in the city of Přerov. In the first locality - Na Hrázi Street, there will be the revitalization of the vegetation along the Strhanec water course. This involves planting of 46 trees.
In the second location - Sokolská Street, there is a proposal to implement measures to improve the microclimate in the form of an investment plan. In the area of Sokolská Street, a rain garden, water features and overall revitalization of greenery are proposed.

Summary of project results

We implemented the project following the Adaptation Strategy of the city of Přerov for climate change for the period 2021-2030, from which it follows that the selected locations of the project are locations with extreme vulnerability to heat waves and drought. In the project, we focused on adapting of the city Přerov to the new natural conditions resulting from the changing climate. The aim of the project was therefore to reduce vulnerability to heat waves and drought, as well as to create accommodation and recreation facilities for local residents.

As part of the project, we revitalized two locations in the city Přerov. In the locality of Na Hrázi Street, we cut down trees in a state of disrepair along the Strhanec watercourse and replaced them with new ones. Part of this action was also the treatment of existing trees by trimming. In the Sokolská Street, we implemented to improve the microclimate – we built a rain garden, water features and overall revitalized the greenery. The rain garden was planted with suitable plants and grasses that utilize the captured water. We created a space for insects, butterflies and birds to hide. The implemented action will reduce the ambient temperature, increase air humidity and improve the microclimate of the city. By implementing measures, we positively influenced 41,404 people.

The target locations, which are defined by the development of family and apartment buildings, were extremely vulnerable to heat waves and drought before the measure were implemented. After the implementation of the measures, the humidity in the locality increased and people''s willingness to stay there increased. It was also desirable to treat the existing trees in Na Hrázi Street. In the localities before the implementation, there was no measure that would utilize rainwater and, moreover, improve the microclimatic conditions in the city. By implementing the project, we removed the aforementioned shortcomings and improved the microclimatic functions in the city.
