Description
CEW is a micro startup company providing entire construction site management. Company performs all types of managerial and administrative tasks of construction site work (dealing with all construction site documentation, professional consulting of all participants in construction etc.).
During their regular business they became familiar with challenges of gypsum plasterboard waste management.
It is estimated that the total amount of gypsum-containing waste in the world is 7-8 billion tons, and increase is 100-280 million tons pa. Although gypsum products are indefinitely and fully recyclable, only small percentage is recycled in Europe.
Because of absence of appropriate recycling center, significant amount of gypsum plasterboard waste ends in landfills in Croatia.
CEW wants to establish first gypsum waste collection center in Zagreb. They want to reduce gypsum plasterboard waste and environmental impact of it by diverting plasterboard waste from landfills and reduce the need for virgin materials.
Drywall installation, construction and recycle companies from Zagreb and surroundings will be able to bring their gypsum plasterboard waste to CEW’s waste management center. Gypsum plasterboard material will be sorted according to the type of material. Initially the screws and eventually other metal parts will be removed from the gypsum plasterboard waste, which will be further processed by the grinder attached to a backhoe loader.
Most of this sorted grinded material will be than further processed in Knin, in Knauf d.o.o., where it will be used for making new gypsum plasterboard material.
However, to be able to do this, CEW needs to invest into proper equipment, that is Grinding corb and machine for attachment of the grinding corb, and this project is about investment into these two machines.
In addition to an evident green impact, the project will help company to grow much faster – it will increase revenue and profit, and will generate new employments.
Summary of project results
The project aimed to address the issue of gypsum plasterboard waste management in Croatia by establishing the first gypsum waste collection center in Zagreb, whereby reducing the amount of construction waste sent to landfills.
To do so, CEW’s intention was to invest into proper equipment to process the waste, that is, into Grinding corb and machine for attachment of the grinding corb. However, CEW managed to invest only into grinding corb (which is the main activity of this project). At the end of project implementation, CEW concluded that machine for attachment of the grinding corb does not really satisfy the needs for establishing the waste collection center, and have therefore resigned from investing into it.
As only grinding corb was procured, by the end of this project, CEW did not succeed in establishing The Gypsum Waste Collection Center in Zagreb, even though its establishment is in process.
Beneficiaries will be construction companies, which will have an eco-friendly disposal option for gypsum waste, and industries such as agriculture, drywall manufacturing, and cement production, which will gain access to high-quality recycled gypsum for their products.
