Description

Although there is a growing awareness of the importance of human rights and a wide variety of activism in modern society, we see in practice that there’s rather low level of understanding of human rights. In addition, the very concept of human rights is often attacked, some feel threatened by the rights of minority and vulnerable groups, there are cynical attitudes and complaints about the politicization of rights, attacks by the authorities on human rights defenders and NGOs and feelings of helplessness of ordinary people who do not believe that they can or are able to do anything about it. This is also experience of especially young people, but also their educators, both in the formal and non-formal education or youth sectors.

The solution is more knowledge: about human rights, about practical ways to fight for them, and to prove that human rights activism works. To achieve this, we will design an educational video series; during the project, we will record 6-8 educational videos/films (up to five minutes) and use them as a stand-alone source of learning and as a starting point for 6-8 educational digital packages.

This will build on our human rights education programme, which we regularly complement with diverse tools to offer as many teachers as possible a variety of interesting and accessible ways of educating. Activities will be focused on both formal and non-formal education.

As far as formal education is concerned, we will take advantage of the opportunity offered by the new educational subject in secondary schools Active Citizenship; our activities will be designed, distributed, piloted, and evaluated through our network of 1150 pedagogical workers. The content will also be used for the extracurricular activity of the Amnesty Academy at the University of Ljubljana. In this way we’ll reach at least 2000 of target groups.
