Description
XOGO operates in the renewable energy sources (RES) industry, producing electric energy from agricultural biogas and supplying about 2,000 MWh of electric energy to the electric grid per year. The biogas is obtained in the process of methane fermentation of substrates from the agrifood industry.
The purpose of the project is to implement our own technology of drying sludge waste with waste heat generated by the combustion of biomass from digestate produced in the biogas plant. This will allow us to provide disposal services and produce biomass for energy generation purposes. Thanks to development works carried out under the project, the process of drying and aggregating sediments will be optimised. The project covers the construction of a technical and production facility, and investments in a PV system and other equipment.
The project will decrease our annual CO2 emissions by 1,724 tons, and reduce the annual electric energy consumption by 2.26 GWh.
Summary of project results
The aim of the project was to increase the level of competitiveness and innovation of XOGO Sp. z o. o. by using environmentally friendly technologies and innovative sludge drying technology, i.e. introducing an innovative sewage sludge drying technology, as well as expanding the offer with a new product - biomass for energy purposes and a new sewage sludge disposal service.
Achieving the goal required creating the necessary base for the proprietary technology and its application in practice. The solutions to be implemented as part of the project were to significantly impact the development of the company, increase the company''s revenues, diversify the sources of these revenues resulting from the expansion of the offer, acquire new customers, reduce operating costs (thanks to the technology of drying sewage sludge using waste heat and investments in renewable energy) and employment growth. The project was also intended to contribute to solving the problem of managing waste heat generated as a result of production by a biogas plant, improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere (CO2) and efficient management of resources.
The project included 4 tasks:
1. creation of rooms and conditions necessary for the implementation of the technology - the task included construction works related to the construction of a production and technical facility and the necessary accompanying infrastructure.
2. purchase of fixed assets constituting the basis for the implementation of innovative technology - 3 fixed assets were purchased as part of the task (sludge dryer - 1 pc., truck scale - 1 pc., telescopic loader - 1 pc.).
3. purchase of a renewable energy installation - as part of the task, a photovoltaic installation with a capacity of 18 kW (1 pc.) was purchased, which allows the use of environmentally friendly technology in the company.
4. carrying out development work - as part of the task, development work was carried out to determine the optimal parameters of drying and granulation of sludge.
The implementation of the full scope of the project enabled the achievement of all assumed project goals and results.
The Environmentally Friendly Technologies Program aimed to increase the competitiveness of entrepreneurs through the use of environmentally friendly technological solutions. At the end of the project, XOGO achieved all required results:
- 1 person employed, a 54-year-old man, a driver
- as a result of the project implementation, innovative technologies and products (new to the company) were introduced in the company.
The result of the project is the implementation at XOGO of an innovative, proprietary technology for drying sewage sludge using waste heat, which will enable the company to provide sewage sludge utilization services and produce biomass for energy purposes. The technology was developed in cooperation with the Research Unit as part of its own and commissioned work.
