Description

The bilateral initiative should strengthen and expand the already established collaboration between Czech and Norwegian research groups based in Prague (Charles University) and Trondheim (University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, NTNU) respectively, conducting complementary research in (bio)physical chemistry. The bilateral initiative should facilitate the development of a molecular model that can be used to understand the conditions leading to association of the peptides causing amyloid formation, which is believed to be a cause of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

The initiative

Summary of the results

Number of stays (Long-term, short-term, participation in conference) took place as planned in the application, but ultimately, the collaboration within the initiative has contributed mainly to the elaboration of the following research articles, published in recognized journals: https://doi.org/10.1016/B978-0-12-821978-2.00103-3, https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0226122, https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0216389.  The last publication describes an open-source software toolbox pyMBE, which is publicly available via a repository hosted at github: https://github.com/pyMBE-dev/pyMBE. Additional simulation results were included in the Master’s thesis of M. Nejedlá, which was supervised by P. Košovan, while R. Dias and P. Blanco were co-advisors. The titration results were included in the Master’s thesis of C. Hunskar, supervised by R. Dias and P. Blanco, while P. Košovan was an external reviewer. The results from both theses will be included in research articles which will be finalised and published only after completion of this initiative, presumably in the beginning of 2026.
