Roofit.Solar is a manufacturer of the fully integrated solar roofs that combine the traditional Nordic metal roof design with progressive solar technology.
The aim of the project is the further development of Roofit.app to external target groups. Today the Roofit.app software is used by Roofit.Solar sales engineers and company''s partners like roof installers and distributors. With this project, the focus is set on the needs of external target groups (e.g. architects, design engineers, energy efficiency engineers and consultants) to enable the use of Roofi.app in their work in discovering the opportunities of building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). The dissemination of project results and outcome will be implemented by Roofit.Academy. Enlarging and diversifying Roofit.app target groups will have positive impact to the company''s economic growth as well as contribute to the implementation of climate policy.
Summary of project results
The broader goal of the project was to further develop the Roofit.app software to reach an expanded user target groups. In addition to Roofit.Solar sales engineers, the software is also used by Roofit.Solar partners in Estonia and abroad (roof installers, dealers). The key issues for the further development of Roofit.Solar were the expansion of the network and the scalability of services. Therefore, Roofit.app was developed to enable the use of the software by new target groups (e.g. architects, designers and energy efficiency consultants). The further development of the software helps to simplify the planning of (near) zero-energy houses in the construction and renovation sector, by turning roofs into electricity-generating solar roofs.
The project involved reconstructing the code base of the existing application, which resulted in the application and services being automatically scalable and publicly available as a service. Additionally, 3D import capability was developed and implemented, allowing the solution''s core user groups to import 3D models into the Roofit.Solar software. In addition, the solution was interfaced with external databases and the software''s cybersecurity was developed.
While the main call project focused mainly on external partners (resellers and installers), the additional project enabled to involve target groups outside the partner network, who would proactively reach the need to use the Roofit.app themselves. Although as a result of the main call project, it is now possible to plan a Roofit.Solar roof regardless of its location in the world, the main focus of the additional project was public access, which would not only consist of the partner network but also its broader functionality and accessibility. Additional additional functionalities (e.g. 3D import) create the opportunity to create interest in new target groups.
The positive impact of the project will become apparent in the future, when the company has also been able to invest further in introducing the app (marketing and advertising). Overall, the project results have been achieved and work on marketing the results continues.
