Description

The Project will contribute to international cooperation in the field of live art. A new production will be created and staged. Czech audiences will get acquainted with Norwegian literature and Norwegian artists will get their own experience with the principles of Czech puppet theatre and fine art theatre. By comparing the various approaches to one topic (a folk-tale) it will be made plain that in the arts, there is not just one single way to handle a specific topic. Other outputs will be practical workshops, seminars open to participants from the Czech Republic and abroad. By being part of the ‘Puppeteers in Chrudim’ festival, which is an open festival of Czech puppetry with foreign participation, the partners will contribute to the inclusive education of amateur artists. The project will also bring the means to explore child audiences. The project will increase the cultural diversity of stakeholders and promote the preservation of intangible cultural heritage (Puppet theatre, Norwegian folk tales). Moreover, it will help exchange experience and contribute to the dialogue not only between artists, but also among the professional theatre community. The project will encourage creativity and develop the capacity of artists within the international cooperation framework. With the Czech-Norwegian cooperation and additional partnership with the Icelandic artist the lasting cooperation is expected. The project has three project partners: Buchty a loutky, the independent alternative puppet theatre; ANPU Theatre, experimental artistic puppetry and alternative theatre; Teater Innlandet, regional theatre of the Norwegian counties Hedmark and Oppland; and Bruduheimar – World of Puppets (Bernd Ogrodnik), director and puppeteer;

Summary of project results

The project "Comparing several Puppet Theatre Dramatizations of a Norwegian Folk-tale" was aimed at bilateral cooperation in the field of live art, exchanging experiences, preservation of intangible cultural heritage (Puppet theatre, Norwegian folk tales) and bringing up the dialogue not only between artists but also among the professional theatre community. At the beginning dramaturgy, directing and stage design concepts of Czech-Norwegian production (ANPU Theatre together with Teater Innlandet) was prepared along with a scene, puppets and costumes. This performance of Norwegian folk-tale ‘East of the Sun and West of the Moon’ was first presented in Liberec and then in Prague during June 2015. Afterwards the theatrical Czech ensemble “Buchty a loutky” played the perfomance of Norwegian folk-tale in Hradec Kralové. The project partner Bernd Ogrodnik performed a production of Metamorphosis including workshop at the festival Puppeteer Chrudim in July 2015. At this festival performances of Norwegian folk-tale by Buchty a Loutky and then by Czech-Norwegian production also followed. Then the Czech-Norwegian production of ‘East of the Sun and West of the Moon’ and also Bouchty a Loutky version was played in Norway (Hamar and Lillehammer) in October 2015. A bilingual expert study "Comparing several Puppet Theatre Dramatizations of a Norwegian Folk-tale" mapping the project and the public audience reactions was written and published at the end of the project. In this project, comparison of several puppet theatre dramatizations of a Norwegian folk-tale was made - one story, two interpretations and two stage renditions. Professional contacts among the participants of the workshops not only between artists, but also among the professional theatre community were established. Cooperation and partnership with the Icelandic and Norwegian artists brought increased interest in the cultural experiences and different approaches to production.

Summary of bilateral results

The project concluded two partnership agreements: with theatre Teater Innlandet which is the regional theatre of the Norwegian counties Hedmark and Opplandand and also with Bernd Ogrodnik (Bruduheimar - World of Puppets) - director and puppeteer living in Iceland. Both partners helped with project preparation and they also provided assistance in the project implementation. Teater Innlandet secured two Norwegian actors (a musician and a technician). They studied together with the Czech team the folk-tale production of ‘East of the Sun and West of the Moon’ and gave performances of this performance in the Czech Republic and at the Festival Puppeteers´ Chrudim. The members of Bruduheimar - World of Puppets (Bernd Ogrodnik) played two performances of production Metamorphosis and led a six-day workshop also at the Festival Puppeteers´ Chrudim. Norwegian partners have learned some interesting insights from the festival organization in Chrudim including approaches in education and socialization of families with children. Likewise for the Czech participants in this project there was an interesting insight into the background of the Norwegian regional theater, backstage organization or system of tours as a theater practice to get his productions to viewers. The project had also 2 more partners (theatre Buchty a Loutky and ANPU Theatre) from the Czech Republic that participated on the performances.
