Description
One of our business activity areas is yacht charter in the Great Masurian Lakes region. We love Masuria and we pay special attention to the preservation of its unique natural values. Therefore, under the project we are adding 5 innovative, zero-emission vessels to our fleet of yachts. They will be equipped with electric propulsion, a safe sailing support system and facilities for people with reduced mobility. This will widen our range of customers by including the elderly and people with disabilities, in line with the global trend of developing the so-called silver tourism and accessible tourism. Equipping the new vessels with an anti-collision system that can locate an obstacle within a 30-meter radius will enable night sailing – a service new to the Masurian region. The elimination of internal combustion propulsion will allow sailing in areas of high natural value (estuaries), which are impossible to enter using a traditional engine.
The Norwegian project partner, Green Waves AS, will be responsible for selecting and configuring the electric propulsion system for the vessels, which includes integrating the electric propulsion system with alternative power sources, i.e. photovoltaic panels and a hydroturbine. In addition to working with the partner, the project budget will cover the labour costs of experts involved in developing the hull design and commissioning the construction of vessels, an R&D service that will develop the yacht''s energy flow control system, certification of the new vessels, and the purchase of a mobile device for collecting wastewater from yachts. We will also buy a phantom for first aid trainin, which will be provided free of charge to all of our customers.
The project will result in a reduction in CO2 emissions of 4.9 tons per year thanks to the use of alternative energy sources, as well as the collection of 2.4 tons of wastewater which at present is often illegally discharged into the lake.
Summary of project results
The project was to deal with:
1. Reducing the pollution of inland waters - the area of the Great Masurian Lakes.
2. Reducing CO2 greenhouse gas emissions.
3. Business development - increasing revenues and profitability.
4. Introduction of an innovative service/product
5. Expanding international cooperation - Norwegian partner,
6. Cooperation with scientific and research units in the field of more complex technical solutions.
The project objectives described in the previous point were achieved:
- CO2 emissions in the area of the Great Masurian Lakes were reduced by using an auxiliary electric drive, photovoltaic panels and a hydroturbine instead of a combustion drive.
- Additional services have been launched: a) night charter, b) ecological charter. This resulted in a doubling of revenues and improved profitability.
- An innovative sailing yacht with extensive automation was put into operation, thanks to which innovative services can be provided.
- Navigation safety has been improved thanks to the use of a radar warning system and a bow camera.
- Cooperation with the Norwegian partner has been initiated in the field of electric drives and their control.
- Five innovative units with intelligent energy management were created. Each subsequent unit received more innovative equipment, which resulted from the development of the project thanks to the experience gained in the construction of the next unit.
- The port is equipped with a mobile pump that extracts feces from yachts. The port did not have such equipment and there are about 100 yachts stationed there.
- The yachts have been equipped with devices supporting sailing so that people who do not have adequate strength can do so physical could benefit from ecological chartering. This is evidenced by the use of an electric capstan and an electric, computer-controlled windlass toilets, anti-collision system, yacht steering and sail trimming support system, and wireless controllers powered by BlueTooth engine power. In addition stern platform facilitating boarding for people with disabilities. Yachts will provide simplicity and intuitive to use. In order to expand the added value of the service under the above-mentioned Features: The port is equipped with an AED defibrillator and a phantom training and testing in providing professional first aid.
- As a result of the project, customers of retirement age who do not have the physical strength to operate a sailing yacht benefited. Also women and youth. Yachts have also become friendly to disabled people.
Summary of bilateral results
Without the Norwegian partner, the implementation of the project would be very difficult and impossible to complete within the assumed time horizon. The deadlines were very tight and it was difficult to meet the deadline with only one month to spare. The Norwegian partner supported the implementation by providing appropriate certificates, installation diagrams, selection of the energy bank, drive system, and an interface enabling remote control of the energy bank from the steering column. Attempts are being made to create a joint venture in the field of boat and yacht construction. Currently, due to the very absorbing process of completing the project, the cooperation has been frozen, but it is planned to resume it in the near future, with a working meeting in Norway and Poland. Taking over or opening a shipyard is being considered. The Norwegian partner is engaged in the construction of small motor boats for sport fishing and the reconstruction of small boats from combustion to electric propulsion. He had no experience in the construction of sailing yachts with advanced control systems, in which the Polish side was strong. Thanks to this, a synergy effect was achieved during the implementation of this project.
