Description

These days, the relation of most of the people to the environment is very superficial. It leads to that the quality of environment is getting worse. Through our project TO THE ROOTS, we want to intensify the relation of the focus groups to the environment and increase their motivations to take care of the nature and be responsible for the environment. Project activities are determinated to the public (mainly families with children with the focus on involving three generation – children, parents, grandparents), school pupils (kindergarten and primary school)and teachers from the area of South Bohemia. These focus groups will be educated in sustainable development. The goal of the project is to inform focus groups through different activities about different nature-processes and impact of human behaviour to the environment. For its realisation, the project is using the area of Nature Museum Semenec in Týn and Vltavou. In the expositions and collections of the museum will be designed and situated 15 interactive educational objects. Focus groups working and playing with these objects would gain the knowledge of how nature-processes work and this experience helps them to understand the reason why take care of nature. There will be prepared and realized 21 educational programmes and 2 workshops.

Summary of project results

The project To The Roots proved the experience that relationship of people to their environment can be influenced through their personal experience. If we want to change the attitude of people to nature in positive way, we have to lead people to knowledge they are dependent on it - on natural sources or the air quality. The aim of the project was to create in the area of Natural Museum Semenec conditions for such an experience, together with conditions for understanding to the processes in the nature. We reached this aim throughout 17 newly invented, made up and built interactive objects; 9 programmes for visitors with these themes: The path of prehistoric man, - Home in the forest, - Field laboratory. These programmes were tested with 23 groups of school children (449 children and 23 teachers took part in the project) and with 4 groups of public (118 visitors of Museum Semenec). Finally, we organized 2 workshops for teachers (39 participants) and 1 workshop for public (68 participants).
