Description

The issue of climate change is highly topical throughout society, across the globe and it is gaining in intensity. We are aware that the problem of climate change is no longer perceived only as a possible future threat, but is considered one of the greatest environmental problems of our time and is a huge challenge for us. Teachers and students of our school have long been interested in these issues, seeking and implementing activities to mitigate climate change. Some activities are regularly carried out by students and teachers as volunteer activities.

To mitigate and adapt to climate change, we are going to accomplish the following soft measures in the project:

1. Innovation and creation of educational materials,

2. Creation of teaching aids and materials.

To mitigate and adapt to climate change, we are going to accomplish the following hard measures in the project:

1. Exchange of asphalt surfaces on school premises for permeable surface,

2. Replacement of lawn - planting of ground cover plants,

3. Support of biodiversity.

By implementing the project activities, we will support current educational activities and create new school activities for their own pupils, their families, regional primary and nursery school pupils, a special primary school and several organizations, such as the Senior Citizens Club, senior citizens and the public.

Summary of project results

The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:

  • systematic education of students on impact of climate change and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with focus on ecology and greenery,
  • implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to reach biodiversity, bee colonies and share of greenery.

Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:

  • environmental education through updated curricula of existing subjects, new teaching blocks (Partial Exercise of Ecology), worksheets focused mainly on mitigation and adaptation to climate change (ecology, world climate changes, etc.),
  • exchange of asphalt surfaces for semi-permeabile with greenery,
  • exchange of grassplot (dry demaged lawn) - outplanting ground cover plants,
  • new insect houses,
  • new educational houses (demonstrating the disintegration of various types of waste material).

Overall, 4 physical climate change responsive measures were carried out in school and school campus, almost 900 students participated the awareness raising campaign and 46 open access education materials were created.

The Project reached more than 500 of persons selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour due to implemented Project activities with impact mainly on students and general public as beneficiaries.
