Description

The initiative aims at exploring the usefulness of the latest emerging technologies in the process of foreign language education (FLE). The applicant in cooperation with the Norwegian partner (NTNU) will draw up two publications with an impact factor (one review study and one original study) published in acknowledged international journals and organise two workshops, one in Gjovik and one in Hradec Králové.

Summary of the results

The project results significantly contributed to the new knowledge in the field of foreign language education. More specifically, new AI technologies were implemented and tested on both institutions and UHK team learned more about the AI and NTNU team acquired new knowledge about the relevant methodologies for their use in foreign language classrooms. Thanks to the joint cooperation of all project team members, whose roles were properly designed, the initiative ran smoothly for its whole duration. The team members (4 researchers and 1 technical support on the Czech side and 2 key researchers and 1 financial advisor on the NTNU side) wrote three publications on the usefulness of emerging technologies in formal language education and published two press releases on the university websites. During workshops they informed other university researchers about the project results, shared and discussed with them their implementation, as well as enrolled them in the project research network. The project in particular detected the most relevant AI technologies for their use in foreign language classroooms at university level, such as DeepL and ChatGPT, and the team members conducted experiments with these tools, as well as suggested specific pedagogical implications for their use in foreign language classrooms. All this effort contributed to the submission of the follow-up project by NTNU, which was successful, and therefore, the sustainability of this initiative has been ensured.
