Description

During the project, simple repairs of health cabinets of seven educational institutions will be performed. 30 school health cabinets will be equipped with mental health measures for mental health prevention and strengthening. This includes new literature (psychological self-help books for children and youth, theoretical and methodological books for specialists, specialized mental health books for preschool and young school children), modern and innovative educational tools, games and specialized equipment (e.g. segmental body analyzer). After the purchasing of the equipment, children and young people will be provided with activities, campaigns and individual consultations in the areas of mental health, bullying, physical activity and obesity prevention. Students who require individual help will be provided with counseling and classes on nutrition, physical activity, and mental health improvement. During individual consultations and through the usage of a modern segmental body analyzer, guidelines will be set in which direction the VS specialist should work to improve the child''s nutrition, physical activity or psychological well-being.The Alytus City Municipality Administration will be responsible for the administration of the project financing agreement, the organization of public procurement procedures for health cabinet repair, the administration of the contract, the organization of public procurement of methodological tools, and the handing of these tools to  health cabinets.The Alytus City Municipality Public Health Bureau will be responsible for the organization and implementation of activities (services) related to the prevention and strengthening of pupils'' mental health; training for professionals who will acquired the skills to recognize children and young people who are experiencing bullying. The partner will use all the results created during the project - renovated premises, purchased methodological tools.

Summary of project results

Health care for children and students has been a sensitive problem in educational institutions of Lithuania for a long time. The project aimed to solve problems related to the poor material base of health offices of pre-school and school education institutions of Alytus city municipality.

The aim of the project was to improve the mental health of children and young people of school age. The task of the project was to renew the health offices of pre-school and school education institutions located in the municipality of Alytus city and equip them with methodological tools.

During the project, repairs works were carried out in 7 health offices of educational institutions in Alytus, 30 health offices in educational institutions were equipped with tools for the prevention of mental health problems and health strengthening: new literature (psychological self-help books for children and young people, theoretical and methodological books for specialists, specialized mental health books for children of preschool and junior school age), modern and innovative educational tools, games, specialized equipment (chair reducing stress and tension, sound speakers), etc.

After purchasing the tools, activities with the new tools and measures for children and young people started, group and individual consultations on the topics of strengthening mental health, promotion of physical activity, prevention of bullying and obesity were carried out. Students who needed individual help were provided with individual consultations and classes on improving nutrition, physical activity and mental health.

During the implementation of the project about 2400 children and young people received improved services and used the purchased tools and equipment. Services for children and youth were improved in 30 health offices. All health offices specialists trained during the project confirmed enhanced abilities to recognize and treat cases of bullying and/or psychosocial problems among children and youth. Developed and equipped infrastructure, as well as trained specialists, allowed to make a more significant contribution to the development of children''s and youth health care infrastructure and reduction and prevention of health inequalities among pre-school and school education institutions of Alytus city municipality.
